City Bank Steps Forward to Support Korail Fire Victims with Immediate Relief and Rehabilitation

In late November 2025, a devastating fire swept through the Korail slum in Dhaka’s Mohakhali–Gulshan area, destroying or severely damaging around 1,500 tin-roofed homes and leaving thousands of residents homeless in just a few hours. The blaze, which began in the early evening and raged for many hours, blanketed the area in heavy smoke and reduced entire neighbourhoods to charred rubble, forcing families to flee with only the clothes they were wearing.

City Bank stood with the affected communities from the outset, stepping forward with immediate relief support to assist those who lost their homes, belongings, and sources of livelihood. In addition to emergency aid, the Bank has committed to long-term rehabilitation support for the displaced residents of Korail, focusing on restoring dignity, security, and opportunities for recovery.

City Bank’s response is rooted in its belief that corporate responsibility extends beyond immediate relief to sustained community support and resilience building. By working closely with local partners and community networks, the Bank aims to address both short-term needs — such as food, shelter, and essential supplies — and long-term recovery, including rebuilding homes and enhancing access to education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities for the families affected by the tragedy.

This initiative aligns with City Bank’s ongoing commitment to uplifting vulnerable populations, particularly women and youth, who are often among the most affected in humanitarian crises. By empowering communities with support and pathways to stability, City Bank reaffirms its role as a growth partner of Bangladesh, dedicated to holistic and sustainable impact — even in the face of adversity.
