For the first time in Bangladesh, City Bank, in collaboration with Google, Mastercard and Visa, introduces Google Wallet a smart and seamless digital payment solution. Customers can add all their City Bank issued Mastercard or Visa cards (both physical and virtual cards) to Google Wallet to make contactless payments with Google Pay.

Q. What is Google Wallet?

Answer: Google Wallet is a digital storage solution where user can securely store your bank cards, transit passes, and more. Its primary function is to store data — not to make payments directly.

Q. What is Google Pay?

Answer: Google Pay is a payment service that allows user to complete transactions using Google’s ecosystem. It works across various Google services such as the Play Store, Wallet, and more.

Q. what’s the relationship between Wallet and Pay? Are they separate?

Answer: There is no separate app called "Google Pay” available in Bangladesh. The cards stored in Google Wallet are used to make payments via Google Pay. In this way, Wallet and Pay complement each other — one stores your cards, and the other facilitates payment using those cards.

Q. Which City Bank cards are supported on Google Wallet?

Answer: City Bank All Visa and MasterCard (Debit, Credit and Prepaid cards) can be added to Google Wallet.

Q: What features will be available on Google Wallet?

Answer: Currently, only payment services at POS machines that are supported NFC wallet transactions.

Q. How can I add my City Bank card to Google Wallet?

Answer: Steps to add:

  1. Open the Google Wallet app on your Android device.
  2. Tap on “Add to Wallet” → “Payment card”.
  3. Use the camera to scan your card or enter card details manually.
  4. Follow the on-screen authentication process (OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number).
  5. Once verified, the card will be added and ready to use.

Do not share OTP with any one.

Q. What devices are compatible with Google Wallet?

Answer: Any Android smartphone running Android 7.0 or later, with NFC capability.

Q. Do I need to internet connection to add card in Google Wallet?

Answer: Yes, Internet connection is required to add card in Google Wallet.

Q. Where can I use Google Wallet?

Answer: You can use Google Wallet at POS machine available at merchant location (locally or internationally) that support NFC wallet transaction.

Q. How do I pay using Google Wallet in stores?

 Answer:

  1. Unlock your phone.
  2. Hold it near the contactless payment terminal.
  3. Wait for the confirmation checkmark or vibration, and you’re done!

You can tap to pay anywhere you see the contactless or Google Pay symbols and POS machine that support NFC wallet transaction

Q. Can I add multiple City Bank MasterCard and Visa Cards to Google Wallet?

Answer:  Yes, you can add multiple City Bank MasterCard and Visa credit or debit cards to Google Wallet. Simply follow the “Add to Wallet” steps for each card. You can choose a default card anytime.

Note: All contactless payments will be made from the card set as the default.

Q: How can I set or remove a default card in Google Wallet?

Answer: The default card is the one used automatically for contactless payments (tap-to-pay) at NFC wallet transaction enabled POS machines.

To set a default card in Google Wallet:

  1. Open the Google Wallet app.
  2. Tap on the card you want to set as default.
  3. Tap "Details" or the three-dot menu (â‹®).
  4. Select "Set as default for tap to pay."

To remove a default card:

You cannot remove a default card without first assigning another card as default. To do this:

  1. Add another card to your wallet (if not already added).
  2. Set the new card as default using the steps above.
  3. Then tap on the previous card > tap the three-dot menu (â‹®) > select "Remove payment method."
Q. Can I add my City Bank MasterCard or Visa Cards to multiple Google Wallet?

Answer:  Yes, you can your MasterCard and Visa cards in multiple to Google Wallet.

Q. Is it secure to use my card through Google Wallet?

Answer: Yes. Google Wallet uses tokenization, meaning your actual card number is never shared with the merchant. Additionally, your phone’s security features (e.g., screen lock or biometrics) help ensure only you can authorize purchases.

Q. Do I need to unlock my phone to pay?

Answer: Yes, for security reasons, the phone must be unlocked using a screen lock (PIN, fingerprint, or pattern) before payment can be made.

Q. Do I need to internet connection to pay using google pay?

Answer: No, Internet connection is not required to pay at Store.

Q. Will I need to enter a PIN for transactions?

Answer: As per Bangladesh Bank regulations, NFC transactions above BDT 5,000 will require the PIN to be entered at the POS terminal.

Q. Can I do transactions at QR through Google Wallet?

Answer: No — you cannot use Google Wallet (or Google Pay) to make QR‑code payments in Bangladesh

Q. Can I use Google Wallet for online or in-app purchases?

Answer: Currently, City Bank Visa and Mastercard cards added to Google Wallet can be used for in-store (POS) contactless payments only. Online and in-app usage support will be communicated if enabled in future.

Q. What should I do if I lose my phone?

Answer: If your phone is lost or stolen:

  • Call City Bank’s 24/7 Contact Center at 16234 or +880 2 8331040 (from abroad) to block your card.
  • Use Find My Device (https://www.google.com/android/find) to remotely lock or erase your device.
Q. Will I still earn rewards/benefits if I pay via Google Wallet?

Answer: Yes, all rewards/cashback/benefits (if any) associated with your City Bank Visa or Mastercard will remain unchanged when you pay using Google Wallet.

Q. Is there any charge for using Google Wallet?

Answer: No. City Bank does not charge any fee for enabling or using your card through Google Wallet. Standard card fees and interest (if applicable) remain unchanged.

Q. Can I remove my card from Google Wallet?

Answer: Yes. Open the Google Wallet app → Select your card → Tap the three-dot menu → Choose Remove.

Q. How do I remove my old card from Google Wallet if I’ve replaced or renewed it?

Answer:

  • Open the Google Wallet app.
  • Select the old/expired card.
  • Tap the three-dot menu (or “More” option) and choose Remove Payment Method (or a similar option).
  • Add your new card by tapping Add to Wallet and following the prompts.
Q. What if my City Bank Card is lost, stolen, or damaged and I receive a replacement card?

Answer:

  • Lost or Stolen Card: Once you report your card lost/stolen and receive a new City Bank card, you must add this new card to Google Wallet. The old card is no longer valid, so you should remove it from your Google Wallet app.
  • Damaged Card: If you requested a replacement due to damage, follow the same steps—remove the old card from Google Wallet and add the new card once you receive it.
Q: What should I do if I find my card or mobile Device has been lost / stolen or feel my card or mobile Device data has been compromised?

Answer:  Call 16234 immediately to notify about the lost/stolen card incident. Following your notification, the bank will restrict your card from any unauthorized transaction. However, the bank shall not take responsibility of an unauthorized transaction if it has happened prior your notification.

Q: What should I do if find a transaction SMS alert/call that has not been made by me?

Answer:: Call us immediately at 16234 and lodge a complaint regarding this.

Q: My phone is Samsung – what NFC setting should I use to make Google Pay work?

Answer:: For Samsung mobile users, please ensure the following settings for Google Pay to work properly:

Set Google Wallet as the default NFC payment app. Go to Settings → Connections → NFC and contactless payments → Select Google Wallet as the default payment application.
Q: I can’t add my card to Google Wallet. What should I do?

Answer: Some users may be unable to add their cards due to a device risk score issue, which means the device doesn’t meet Google’s security requirements. Please ensure the following:

Your phone is running Android 7.0 or higher. The device is Play Protect certified (not rooted or running a custom ROM). A screen lock (PIN, Pattern, or Fingerprint) is enabled. You are using an official version of Google Play Services. If your device still isn’t eligible, you may try adding the card using another compatible device.
Q: I’ve added my card, but Tap and Pay isn’t working. What should I check?

Answer: Please ensure the following if Tap and Pay is not functioning:

NFC is turned on in your phone’s settings. Google Wallet is set as the default Tap & Pay app. Your card is active and not expired. You are tapping on a contactless-enabled POS terminal. Your phone screen is on and unlocked at the time of payment.
Q: Can I avail the Buy 1 Get 1 Free buffet offer when paying with Google Pay?

Answer: No, currently the Buy 1 Get 1 Free buffet offer is not applicable for payments made through Google Pay. To enjoy this offer, please use your eligible physical City Bank credit card directly at the participating hotel or restaurant.
